Welcome!

Welcome to Jefferson Park Baptist Church! When I ask new members why they joined, it usually includes an encouraging word about how loving and welcoming the body was to them. We have been blessed with a God-given, loving fellowship as well as a unity and harmony from the Spirit. I pray that everyone who participates in our worship or in our covenant of membership will be blessed with a greater love for God, for one another, and for the world. We have tried to give you a taste of what we believe, who we are, and what to expect on the website, but of course, you will have to come visit us for yourself to experience the work off the Spirit among us. Please feel free to contact me for any additional information about the church or if you have any questions. — Pastor Keith

Worship Environment

Jefferson Park will hopefully feel like a family gathering where new comers are always welcome. So come as you are. We think you’ll find the atmosphere welcoming but if the people sitting beside you don’t introduce themselves it might be because they’re new here too!

The Environment

We are a group of people who come from all walks of life. Some of us are students, some of us are professionals, some are older and some are younger. You’ll see a few guys wearing suits, a few more people wearing t-shirts and jeans, and most people will be somewhere in between.

The Music

It is our goal to see our congregational music increasingly reflect our continue growth in the gospel of Christ. While our musical style could be considered “simple,” the theme of the songs we sing always remains the same. We always sing about God the Father and the great redemption story he has unfolded through His Son Jesus Christ. Not only do we try to sing songs that are old and new, but we try to choose music that speaks to Christians in all of the seasons of life.

The Message

Each week we give the best part of our time together to the preaching of the Bible. This kind of preaching is committed to explaining what the verses of scripture teach and how they apply to our daily lives (often referred to as “expositional” or “exegetical”). This is not a time for the preacher to vent his own opinions or preferences. Rather it is an opportunity for all of us to hear from God as His word is faithfully explained, illustrated, and applied. However, having said this, we would not want to give you the impression that this is just an academic Bible lecture. We believe that at its best preaching comes with the power and presence of Almighty God, Himself. It is knowing God himself that we are seeking as we listen to the preaching.

Nursery

We strive to provide a safe, caring place for children three and under. The nursery is available on Sundays and Wednesdays when our church body meets. Children in the nursery enjoy free play time, songs, rhymes, stories, and a light snack.

Please Bring

  • A labeled diaper bag
  • Sufficient amount of diapers (disposable)
  • Change of clothes
  • Bottle or sippy cup (labeled)
  • Pacifier and keeper if your child uses one
  • List of instructions if necessary

Please label all items to help us keep track of them.

Snacks

If you would like your baby (pre-walker) to have a snack or drink please include it in your diaper bag.  If your child needs a meal please try to feed them before you place them in the nursery.

Check-In/Check-Out

Please follow these guidelines when you check your child into the nursery:

  • Visitors: Upon your arrival, you’ll fill out a security tag for both the security and identification for your child. You’ll then place one tag on the child’s back, one on your diaper bag, and one on their cup. Keep the other tag with you during the service and bring it when you pick up your child. Should your child need you during the service, the number on the tag will appear on the display board in the sanctuary at the front-right.
  • Regular Attendees: After you have visited several times we will create a laminated tag for your child and diaper bag. We will also give you a laminated tag for when you pick up your child. The laminated tag has a number that will appear on the display board in the sanctuary if we need you during the service.
  • Make sure your diaper bag and sippy cup are labeled and hand your child and bag to the caregiver over the half wall and quickly exit the area.  This is the best and most compassionate way to deal with separation anxiety. We will use the number paging system if your child doesn’t calm down in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Please do not enter the nursery room unless absolutely necessary. If you feel you must check on your little one, please ask the Nursery Hostess for help. It is to your child’s advantage not to see you until you are ready to take him home.
  • If you bring personal toys from home we will need to keep them in your diaper bag.
  • Please respect the caregivers and be prompt in picking up your child from the nursery at the close of each service and event. Be sure to bring your security tag. If you loose your security tag you will need to wait for a member of the Nursery Team to release your child.
  • No one should enter the nursery rooms except scheduled workers and children.

Nursing Room

There is a Nursing Room available for mothers who prefer a private place to nurse, ask the Nursery Hostess for more information.

Health Guidelines

  • Sickness/Illness Policy
  • Please keep your child at home with any of the following symptoms or illnesses:
  • Fever greater than 100.0
  • Runny nose or coughing
  • Rashes or diarrhea
  • Impetigo, Pink eye
  • Questionable rashes

If your child is being treated with antibiotics, he should be on the drug for at least 24 hours before coming to the nursery. If your child has a continually runny nose or rash due to non-contagious allergies, please let us know.

Caregivers are not allowed to give children medication of any kind.

Our goal is for all our babies to remain healthy! Please be considerate of others.

How Can You Help

There are many ways to help in the Nursery and we would love for you to be a part of our ministry!

  1. Volunteer Rotation
    • Many members serve approximately once every 4-6 weeks. A schedule is created and given to you. In order to volunteer, you must attend a Nursery training, complete an application, and receive a background check. Once that is completed, you are able to serve.
  2. Donations
    • We welcome donations of needed items. Please speak with a member of the Nursery Team before bringing your donation to see if it would meet a current need.

Training Room

JPBC strives to be a family-friendly church as we encourage families to sit together in our worship services. Children learn how to worship through their regular participation and involvement in our services.

If this is practically not the best option for your family, a nursery is available for younger children (under age of 4) during the Sunday 10:45 am service. JPBC also has a “Training Room” where parents who find their children to be distracting to others and who wish to worship together can sit in a room with other families while listening and watching the Sunday morning sermon.

Bulletin

We follow a scheduled Order of Worship each week at JPBC, meaning, when you walk in the door, you’ll be given a “bulletin” that will show you what songs we’re singing, parts of the Bible we’re reading and hearing from, and when we’ll pray. We don’t want people to feel left out or confused. Below is a sample of what our bulletin looks like.

Under “Resources” at the top, there’s a link to our weekly bulletin, updated on Friday afternoons.
